McInally wants more from shot-shy players

-

Peterhead boss Jim McInally compared his team to the Scottish Premiership champions, although not in a complimentary manner.

McInally felt his men were guilty of not testing Berwick goalkeeper Sean Brennan enough before Rory McAllister’s second half winner from Jamie Stevenson’s cross.

McInally said: “I said to the players at half time, I know it is tough when teams sit in but for all the nice intricate bits of play, we had no shots at goal.

“I know we are nowhere near Celtic but it was like watching them to a certain extent.

“It was hard to watch because their goalkeeper was not doing any work and you were thinking, is there any chance of somebody having a shot or putting a cross in?

“The difference in the second half was that Jamie Stevenson got forward and put in a lovely ball and we scored off a few of them last season as well.”

Regardless of how the win came about, it was an important three points as Peterhead stayed second behind Edinburgh City.

McInally continued: “We have now got 16 points from this quarter with two games still to go and that is pretty good.

“I think we have made a decent start with having those points on the board and we just need to keep it going.

“We play Annan away next weekend and they have had a really good result against Stirling Albion so I am quite happy.

“Mick Dunlop played his first 90 minutes and he tired towards the end, although I think that man of the match award gave him an extra bit of energy in his legs at the end.”

Berwick manager Robbie Horn said: “Peterhead had good possession of the ball but I thought my guys were very resilient
