Price unhappy as off-day means more ground lost at top

-

Elgin City boss Gavin Price bemoaned an “off-day” for his side as they lost more ground on the league leaders after a heavy defeat 4-1 at Clyde.

The result leaves Price’s men eight points off tabletoppers Edinburgh City, although they have a game in hand against Cowdenbeath.

Elgin were three behind inside 40 minutes at a blustery Broadwood with Price unhappy at his side’s failure to defend set-pieces.

He said: “We lost some very poor goals. Their delivery in the first half was really good and the swirling wind made it difficult for us to defend.

“But we didn’t deal with it nearly well enough and that’s disappointing. We’ve been good at defending setpieces all season but we were caught out quite badly on Saturday. We have got to look to improve.”

The visitors were 3-0 down after 40 minutes after a David Goodwillie strike was sandwiched between two goals from Clyde centreback Martin McNiff. Jordan Lowdon pulled one back before half-time but an Abdel Karim Belmokhtar tap-in meant a home victory was never in doubt.

Elgin also saw forward Rabin Omar dismissed for two bookings early in the second half.

Price added: “I’ve got no complaints over the sending off.

“Rabin likes to play on the edge but I think he was a bit naive going into the second challenge. I don’t want to take that natural instinct out of his game because that’s what makes him such a good player.”
