Attempted murder among raft of charges

A man has appeared in court charged with attempted murder following an alleged robbery at an Aberdeen shop.

Joseph Bissett, 41, appeared in private at Aberdeen Sheriff Court yesterday.

He faces a string of charges including assault to injury, danger of life, attempted murder and robbery. He is also charged with two counts of possession of an offensive weapon, one of acting in a threatenin­g and abusive manner and one of assaulting or impeding police.

Bissett, whose address was given only as Aberdeen, made no plea and was remanded in custody.

The case was committed for further examinatio­n and he is expected to appear again in the next week.

It comes after police were called to the Nisa Local in Heathryfol­d Circle just before 2.30pm on Thursday after receiving reports of an incident.

A shop worker required medical treatment for her injuries but police said they were not serious.

It happened minutes after an incident at the Premier shop in Marchburn Drive, during which a quantity of alcohol was allegedly stolen.

Police were later seen removing items wrapped in an evidence bags from the scene at the Nisa shop.

Detective Sergeant Stephen Beattie said: “I would like to thank those who assisted at the scene.”
