Drifting vessel issues alert to rescuers

Coastguard teams dealt with an incident off the north-east coast yesterday morning.

A lifeboat was launched from Fraserburg­h to assist with a vessel drifting its anchor.

Rescue teams received a 999 call at 8am from the vessel in distress in the Fraserburg­h Bay area.

Teams from Fraserburg­h and Peterhead lifeboat station, and from RNLI Fraserburg­h, took to the water to search for the ship.

A coastguard spokeswoma­n said: “We received the call to rescue a vessel in distress, shortly before 8am yesterday.

“Teams were tasked to the incident and the vessel was safely taken back to Fraserburg­h harbour by 8.45am.”

The coastguard said just one person was aboard the vessel which was brought safely into port.
