We need unity to survive Brexit

-

SIR, – It has been said many times “where there’s a will, there’s a way” and right now, our UK politicians have to harness, without dissent, all the special skills and attributes of innovative, creative and inventive minds which, when pooled, can find that way to overcome the Brexit problems in Ireland along with the Immigration hurdles and trade deals to achieve a workable solution to technologically solveable sticking points.

Our UK history tells us that as a people, we do survive and thrive as our forefathers did after the First and Second World Wars, and also more recently, the 2008 financial crash with cumulative costs to the country of hundreds of billions of pounds.

Currently, too many political groupings and mavericks grab headlines without credible answers, including Scotland’s FM, who encourages MPs – before the outcome is known – to vote down any compromise deal the UK could make, thereby acting like a judge in a kangaroo court, which has no place in our democracy.

The 2016 vote has to be honoured, else we kiss goodbye to trust and honour by ending up in a political-science studies description of a country of “banana republic” status.

Genuine goodwill across the home nations can unite a formidable team to clinch the exclusive terms for trade, freeing the country to be a solid trader across the world.

Only ill will from home-grown disruptors aiding the grievance culture will prevent the success all of us crave.

So, we should all pull together to get the thing done,in my opinion. Otherwise what was the point of the referendum? Angus McNair, Farnachty, Clochan, Buckie
