although footage appeared to show Anton Ferdinand had been the aggressor in a clash with the Gers player seconds earlier.

The Ibrox club released a statement on Thursday announcing it would make a formal complaint over Collum after losing their appeal against Candeias’s second yellow card.

Gerrard said: “I think he is a good referee in general, he has been picked by UEFA to be a referee. It is not a personal issue at all. We all make mistakes, we are all human. It is my responsibility to support the referees and officials in this country, it is not a big talking matter.”

They face Motherwell tomorrow, who are likely to delay Charles Dunne’s comeback from a groin injury until after the international break. Craig Tanner (knee), Aaron Taylor-Sin- clair (hamstring) and Liam Donnelly (groin) are out.

Dundee manager Jim McIntyre has urged his players to be brave and take risks in their basement battle with St Mirren. Both sides are adrift of the rest of the Ladbrokes Premiership in recent games as two new managers strive to turn around fortunes.

He said: “It’s important that they take risks, especially in the last third of the park, and be brave and try to work their goalkeeper, give our fans something to get off their seats about, make sure there is plenty of action in their box. If we can do that then there’s a good chance we will win.”

St Mirren boss Oran Kearney will assess Stephen McGinn ahead of the game. The Buddies skipper is struggling with a hamstring injury sustained against Rangers last week.
