Pensioner hails team that saved her life
A Mearns pensioner who says it is a “miracle” she is still alive has thanked the doctor who saved her life.
Stella Ogden was rushed to hospital after relatives failed to rouse her after she had been asleep for more than 24 hours.
The 69-year-old, from Gordoun, was taken to Aberdeen’s Royal Infirmary where doctors discovered she had sepsis, a collapsed lung and pneumonia.
Last night Mrs Ogden – who was on life support for eight days – said she “couldn’t thank the NHS enough”, adding: “I was at death’s door. It is a miracle that I am still alive and have a tale to tell.
“I want to thank all the NHS staff, but especially Dr Kevin Sim.
“I didn’t get the chance to meet him again, but I believe he was one of the first to treat me when I was blue-lighted in.
“I’m still not fully recovered, but I am home. I am still getting treatment for an infection in my heel, which they think was the cause of the sepsis.”
Dr Kevin Sim last night played down the praise and stressed the whole intensive care team had played a part in her care.
He said: “The intensive treatment unit team cares for patients, and their families, at often the most difficult point in their lives.
“We do this by working as a team to provide the best treatment possible.
“It’s very gratifying for Stella to single me out in particular but it really is a team effort.
“I’m pleased to hear she is recovering well and we all wish her the best for the future.”
