Ton of opportunity for former Dons midfielder

-

Former Aberdeen midfielder Nicky Low is training with Greenock Morton.

The 26-year-old is a free agent after leaving Northern Ireland outfit Derry City at the end of October.

Low featured as a trialist for Morton in a 1-0 friendly defeat against Manchester United’s under-23 side yesterday.

The midfielder made his Aberdeen debut more than eight years ago in a 3-0 victory against Hearts on January 27 2010 and went on to make 39 appearances for the Dons before joining Dundee on a three-year deal at the start of the 2015-16 season.

He was loaned to Derry City in 2017, winning the club’s player of the year award. After being released by Dundee in May 2018, Low joined Derry on a permanent deal. Morton are fifth in the Scottish Championship, two points behind fourthplace Caley Thistle.

Meanwhile, Peterhead manager Jim McInally will use a free Saturday tomorrow to spy on Scottish Cup opponents Morton at Ayr United. The Blue Toon are not in action as scheduled opponents Edinburgh City are on IRN-BRU Cup duty against Alloa and McInally will head to Somerset Park to look at one of his former clubs in action ahead of next Saturday’s tie at Cappielow.

McInally said: “Our tie with Morton is a bit of a free hit for us as no one will expect us to do anything at the home of a Championship club.

“However, it is a good chance to know a bit more about them before going there. We are having a training session with the entire squad on Friday to keep them ticking over.

“I will put what I learn at Ayr into our training next week.”
