Appeal for more trains for cup final fans

-

An Aberdeen MSP has called on ScotRail bosses to put on more trains for the upcoming League Cup final.

Aberdeen Central SNP Kevin Stewart has written to chief executive Alex Hynes suggesting earlier services to Glasgow as the first departure is at 9.24am.

The Dons play Celtic in the cup final clash at Hampden in Glasgow on December 2 at 3pm.

The 18,000-ticket allocation for Aberdeen supporters has already sold out and the club is still awaiting news to see if more seats will be given.

Mr Stewart said: “An earlier or direct service would allow folk in Aberdeen to enjoy a good day out beginning well before the match.

“I am hopeful this final will be as accessible as possible”

“It’s great for the city when the football club reaches finals like these and I am hopeful that this final will be as accessible as possible for Dons fans from across Aberdeen and the northeast.”

There was controversy ahead of the semi-final against Rangers last month with league bosses were criticised for their scheduling of the match.

Dons fans complained the original noon kick-off time was too early and that the game was on the same day as the Celtic versus Hearts semi-final.

League bosses bowed to pressure and put it back to 4.30pm after mass complaints from north-east supporters about being unable to attend as the first train arrived after the noon kick-off.

A ScotRail spokesman said: “We are still finalising plans for the services on the day. We will communicate that as soon as we have the details.”
