Brexit won’t solve economic issues

The Press and Journal (Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire) - - AGENDA -

SIR, – Germany makes better cars than us so they sell three times as many to China than we do.

Currently 30% of our fishermen, 70% of fish processors and 20% of workers in 18 industries are all immigrants – not all unskilled. This won’t change after Brexit – we’ll just have to find more from outside the EU.

Brexit is a distraction from Britain and Scotland’s real problems. Housing is too scarce and expensive so people can’t relocate, too many just don’t want to do the work, many companies would go bust if they couldn’t pay low wages, our benefits system enables employers to pay low wages, and parents and our education system do not produce enough young people who want to be challenged to learn real skills.

Until we sort that out, no trading system in the world will equip Britain for the next 50 years.
