Scotland’s Taylor shares Morocco lead

Scotland’s Rachael Taylor shares the lead after the opening day of the Ladies European Tour qualifying school pre-qualifier at Amelkis Golf Club in Marrakesh, Morocco.

Airdrie-born Taylor, who is based in Germany, finished six under par after shooting a bogey-free 66.

She is tied at the summit with Austria’s Nadine Dreher and Sweden’s Linnea Strom.

They hold a two-stroke advantage over Charlotte Hannah Leatham from England, Swede Filippa Moerk, France’s Mathilda Cappeliez, Tvesa Malik from India and Scot Alison Muirhead.

Niina Liias (Finland) and Annelie Sjoholm (Sweden) are a stroke further back on three-under-par.

Leona Maguire (Ireland), Lara Plachetka (France) and Diksha Dagar (India) are tied for 11th on two-underpar, while Leona’s twin Lisa Maguire is 39th on twoover.

Grantown’s Hannah McCook is tied 35th after a one-over-par 73, fighting back from a three over front nine after dropping shots at the first, third and seventh holes with two birdies coming in at holes 11 and 18.

Aboyne amateur Kimberley Beveridge is tied 63rd in the 70-player field after a seven-over-par round of 79.

Heather Stirling, from Bridge of Allan, is tied 27th after opening with a level par 72.

After four rounds, the top 38 players and ties will advance to the final stage, to be played at Amelkis Golf Club and Palm Golf Ourika over five rounds on December 16-20.
