Improving defensive performance is crucial for recovery

-

Elgin City manager Gavin Price feels the Black and Whites must tighten up at the back if they are to return to winning ways against Albion Rovers in League 2 today.

City have lost their last three league matches, with the Moray outfit squandering a two-goal lead in last weekend’s 5-2 away loss to Stirling Albion.

Although Price has been encouraged by his side’s attacking play he is demanding a defensive improvement when bottom-of-thetable Rovers make the trip to Borough Briggs.

Price said: “We have really got to get back to winning ways again.

“On Saturday the players were extremely disappointed with themselves, and I was so disappointed with the way we conceded goals after such a fantastic start.

“Our attacking play was really good, we created a lot of chances even after going down to 10 men, but the goals we lost were far too soft.

“Our problem is defensively we are not doing well enough. It’s something we have worked on. The basics of the game are to keep the other team out.

“We’ve got players who can hopefully do the business at the other end but we need to do both.

“We are not going to win games if we lost goals like that.”

City are just two points adrift of the promotion play-off places, but Price said: “It’s so frustrating as we should be in a better position in the league. We have thrown away points in these games, and it needs to change.”

Skipper Jon-Paul McGovern returns from suspension. However, defender Jordan Lowdon is banned following his red card against the Binos last week.

Matthew Cooper will miss out against the Coatbridge men through injury.
