Once there was a little boy who was looking forward to Christmas. He enjoyed everything about it. When the day finally came, he got up and opened all the presents that he had been given. He got a car and a load of jigsaw puzzles and an aeroplane and a huge box filled with his favourite chocolate. But, under the tree was one huge box that remained untouched. Inside it was the big present. His parents tried to get him to open it, but he refused. Why, he had jigsaws to do, cars to drive and more. His parents thought maybe the next day, once all the excitement had quietened, he might open the big present. But he never did. God has given us many good gifts, but the greatest gift is him giving himself to us so that we can know him and experience his love and mercy. Many of us are like the little boy… we tinker with the lesser gifts and never get round to opening and enjoying the greatest gift. Maybe this Christmas time, you might seek and find Jesus, the saviour of the world. You might receive God’s greatest gift.
