Investigations into fires at harbours will continue

- BY KIERAN BEATTIE

Investigations into a series of intentional blazes around the Aberdeen coastline are continuing this weekend.

Decades of fishing history went up in smoke on Sunday January 6 when a number of traditional fishing vessels at Cove Harbour were set on fire deliberately.

And police are continuing their inquiries into a number of incidents at the Aberdeen Harbour expansion project at Greyhope Road.

Since December 25, the site has been targeted multiple times.

Following investigations, officers have discovered that a large wheelie bin was set on fire in the Charleston Park area of Cove at 1.20am on Sunday January 6, shortly before the fire at Cove Harbour was reported.

Additional police patrols are being carried out in both Cove and Greyhope Road.

Detective Inspector Allen Shaw said: “We would like to thank the local community who continue to come forward and assist us with our inquiries.

“It has been extremely heartening to see so many people supporting the fishermen who lost their possessions in the fire at Cove Harbour.

“These are malicious crimes and I would like to provide every assurance that extensive inquiries are going to identify who is responsible for them.”
