SNP ‘nonsensical’ and ‘disingenuous’
SIR, – Mr B Mackenzie (P&J Letters, January) takes issue with a recent letter of mine critical of the political irrationality of the SNP.
They claim that leaving the EU, which is 17% of our market, is going to cause an economic and employment disaster, whereas leaving the UK, which is 66% of our market, will not.
This is clearly disingenuous nonsense.
I also made the point that SNP MPs are not allowed to vote in the best interests of their constituents over Brexit because they are under the iron grip of the party which focuses only on its over-riding ambition to break up the UK.
Rather irrelevantly, Mr Mackenzie lists standard SNP grievances – the submarine base at Faslane and immigration policy being his principal complaints.
The nuclear deterrent is a political weapon upon which our ultimate survival depends.
It will never be used – which means it is doing precisely what it is meant to do and long may that last.
Those who demand control of immigration must first explain why so many people of working age leave Scotland?
The answer is simple. It is because of the gross mismanagement of our country by the SNP.
Education, health and transport targets are all being missed.
Those earning £26,000 or more are taxed up to £1,500 more than the rest of the UK.
Businesses are being crippled by exorbitant rates and, crucially, the business birth rate here is lower than the rest of the UK and the death rate is significantly higher.
The sooner our proud country can be rid of this lamentable SNP Government the better.
