Funbox still going strong and still a firm favourite

- BY DAVID DALZIEL

Aberdeen’s HMT was filled with laughter and silliness as Funbox played two shows to enthusiastic audiences yesterday.

The musical trio – formerly of The Singing Kettle – did not disappoint with their tried and tested routine of traditional songs, terrible gags and audience participation.

I have been taking my children since the Singing Kettle days, and despite my son now being nine, he still enjoyed the show, while my five-year-old daughter loved it, especially the clever lighting that made the theatre ceiling really sparkle. The 3pm

showing was the final performance of this Once Upon A Time show that has seen Gary, Kevin and Anya touring the country since mid-November.

They showed no sign of fatigue and looked to be having as much fun as we were.

Based around a number of traditional fairytales, the show had all the old favourites to sing along to, and one of the highlights, as always, was when children from the audience were invited on to the stage to dress up and take part. Particularly amusing was the group of five little mice pretending to attack ring leader Kevin.

While this tour may be over, Funbox fans don’t have to wait too long to see their favourites again as a new DVD will be filmed at Portlethen Academy Theatre on March 23.

There is also a Wild West show scheduled for HMT on August 10.

Funbox hasn’t lost any of its charm or popularity and we’re already planning our next trip to see them very soon.
