Turriff denied away win by Keith’s stoppage-time strike

-

A stoppage-time equaliser from top scorer Cammy Keith prevented Keith manager Dean Donaldson from marking his first year in charge at Kynoch Park with a defeat.

The striker found the back of the net just when it looked certain Turriff would grab an away win.

Donaldson said: “We’ve got to be happy with the draw, although we huffed and puffed.

“We maybe made too many changes and we lost the flow of our play.

“That was probably the poorest we have played in the last six weeks. We were over-run in midfield but had plenty of chances.

“It was late on that Cammy scored but I always thought there was a goal there for us.”

The Maroons had early chances with Fraser Hobday denying Cammy Keith before the home captain set up Scott Begg, only for the midfielder to fire well over the bar when it seemed easier to score.

At the other end a slack Macaulay Rae pass almost let ex-Keith striker Michael Ewen capitalise but his effort was diverted for a corner.

A handball by Keith defender Ryan Robertson nine minutes from halftime saw Angus Grant make no mistake from the resultant penaly kick, sending Greg Simpson the wrong way.

The Keith goalkeeper twice came to the fore after the break pulling off fine saves before Scott Gray blazed over the bar at the other end.

It was all square with 58 minutes played when a James Brownie pass was latched on to by Cammy Keith, who deftly clipped the ball over Hobday into the roof of the net.

Within a minute Simpson produced a fine block at the other end, with Marc Young also blocking a Turriff effort.

The points looked to be heading back to the Haughs in the 82nd minute when Liam Strachan was allowed to set up ex-Keith loanee Keir Smith to tap home.

However, in stoppage time in a crowded penalty area Cammy Keith turned and hit the ball home for his 17 th goal of the season.

Turriff manager Kris Hunter said: “It was an entertaining game but I saw it as two points dropped. We didn’t defend with a high enough line in the second half.

“When we got the lead so late on I wanted to see the game out.”

“I always thought there was a goal there for us”
