Gordonians on a high after nine-try rout

Gordonians will travel to Dumfries and Galloway on Saturday with their unbeaten record intact for their biggest challenge of the season when they meet second-placed Newton Stewart, although on current form the Countesswells side need fear no side.

Head coach Ryan Morrice was delighted with his side’s second run out in 2019, declaring his side ready for the game after running Hillhead Jordanhill off their feet in the 62-5 win which included nine tries, two of which were scored by man of the match full back Graeme Crawford who also kicked seven conversions and one penalty.

Morrice said: “They tested us early on but, as is the way of the guys, they sorted things out as they went along and were very convincing winners, although I was unhappy to concede a lone try in the second half.

“We were a bit ring rusty last week against Murrayfield Wanderers but this was a much better performance.”

Gordonians took time to settle but once forwards Chris Simpson and Andrew McInnes had touched down for first-half tries, both of which were converted by the excellent Crawford, the result was never in doubt.

Crawford added a try of his own, while slotting the extras and a penalty, giving the homesters an unassailable 24-0 lead at half time.

The rout continued in the second half with the hosts adding a further six tries, attributed to Gregor Brown, Matt Hillier, Ewan Dunnett, Danny Usugo (2)and another for the irrepressible Crawford who also added a further four conversions with his trusty left foot.

Hillhead Jordanhill had the consolation of a late try to take home but the day belonged to Gordonians.
