Pensioner knocked down

Incident: Police appeal for witnesses after 85-year-old hurt in collision

- BY KIERAN BEATTIE

An 85-year-old woman was taken to hospital yesterday after a serious crash on an Aberdeen street.

The emergency services were called to the scene of the incident on Provost Watt Drive in Kincorth shortly after 12.30pm following reports of a collision involving a car and a pedestrian.

An ambulance, rapid response unit and a trauma team were dispatched to the incident, and the female casualty taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary for treatment.

Last night, the extent of her injuries remained unclear though she was said to be in a “serious” condition.

The driver of the taxi was uninjured.

Emergency services closed off the scene of the crash, near the junction with Faulds Row, for several hours and it was not reopened until shortly before 6pm.

Kincorth councillor Alex Nicoll said: “This was very troubling news to hear and my thoughts are with this poor woman and her family, and all other parties involved, at this time.

“Nobody expects when they’re leaving the house in the morning that they may end up involved in a road traffic collision.

“I would encourage anybody who might have seen this incident or can assist the police in any way to phone officers as soon as possible.”

At least eight police vehicles were dispatched to Faulds Row after the collision, including an incident support unit.

Officers carrying out inquiries cordoned off the road around the taxi, a blue Ford Tourneo.

Specialists could be seen inspecting the vehicle and officers involved in the inquiry were spotted placing yellow markers on the road close to where the crash took place.

Police have urged anyone with information they think might be important and who may have seen the vehicle or pedestrian beforehand to call 101.

“My thoughts are with this woman and her family at this time”
