Record project tally for firm

John­ston Carmichael (JC) said yes­ter­day its five-strong team of con­struc­tion and prop­erty tax re­lief ex­perts ad­vised on a record £290 mil­lion of com­mer­cial projects in the year to May.

The Aberdeen-based ac­coun­tancy and busi­ness ad­vice firm launched its con­struc­tion and prop­erty in­cen­tives arm in 2013 to give strate­gic ad­vice on cap­i­tal al­lowances in the built en­vi­ron­ment.

Projects in­volv­ing the divi­sion dur­ing 2018-19 in­cluded the Radis­son RED Ho­tel in Glas­gow, Glen­rinnes or­ganic gin

and vodka dis­tillery, near Glen­livet, in Moray, and a large in­dus­trial port­fo­lio on be­half of a Lon­don­based prop­erty fund.

The team, which is led by Michael Mur­ray and Robert Win­ters, has ad­vised on projects to­talling £1.6 bil­lion since its in­cep­tion.

Of­fice projects ac­counted for £70m of the 2018-19 to­tal, fol­lowed by in­dus­trial at £46m and ho­tels at £45m.

Michael Mur­ray, part­ner and head of con­struc­tion and prop­erty at JC, said: “Our ap­proach is to get in­volved as early as pos­si­ble.

“Our sur­vey­ing, con­struc­tion and en­gi­neer­ing ex­pe­ri­ence en­ables us to be the valu­able com­mu­ni­ca­tion link be­tween the worlds of ac­coun­tancy, prop­erty and con­struc­tion.”
