We need staff to fill new buildings
SIR, – Jim Bruce is correct in his assessment (Press and Journal, October 9).
Our first minister has visited the north-east twice in the space of seven days – anyone may think there is a general election round the corner!
As she stated herself she attends many openings, the vast majority of which are within her central belt strongholds.
It is fantastic to hear of Peterhead’s new proposed academy and realise the opening of a new medical centre in Inverurie.
True to form our first minister is first in line to open these buildings, but we need to understand what she will now do to reverse her government’s failures in
addressing the chronic shortage of teaching and medical staff required to occupy and operate such buildings?
Surely acceptance of these well documented shortages would be a good starting point.
The foundations of these buildings are one thing but the foundations of the future local talent pool required to operate them is surely an equal priority, a priority that the electorate will judge her on at the ballot box?
I certainly hope we see less smoke and mirrors and more acceptance and action. Conrad Ritchie, Cairnglass House, St Combs
