A special celebration will be held in Aberdeen to mark the start of the Scotland-wide Care Experienced Week.

The annual weekly celebration encourages children and young people who are currently in care as well as those who have left formal care, to feel positive about their background and celebrate a fundamental part of who they are.

Councillor John Wheeler, Aberdeen City Council’s Educational Operational Delivery Convener, said: “As

“We want to embed children’s rights in everything we do as a council.

“Care Experienced Week is an important time in the city’s calendar and a vital part of achieving our ambitions for our young people.

“We want to remove any lingering stigmas surrounding formal care and to promote positivity among care experienced young people”.

Aberdeen Care Experienced (ACE) is the group that represents the more than 550 care experienced young people in Aberdeen.

One young person said: “Being part of ACE has made me realise that I am capable of so much more. We can be proud of our achievements.”
