Wilson preparing for debut marathon by chasing gold
Moray’s Kenny Wilson will complete preparations for his marathon debut by representing Moray Road Runners in Saturday’s North District cross country relay championships at Gordonstoun.
The Scotland international is due to run in the Frankfurt marathon later in the month but his immediate priority is to help Moray’s quest for gold medals this weekend.
It will be no easy task as Inverness Harriers have won the senior men’s title for the past five years and will once again be difficult to beat despite the expected absence of one of their top runners, Sean Chalmers.
Wilson said: “I definitely believe we will be in the mix but it depends on who Inverness have in their team.
“We have a strong side which includes my brother James, Ewan Davidson and Gareth Jenkins.
“I guess we are due a win but there are a few other clubs who look to have strong sides, including Fraserburgh who have a few good young lads.
“The Highland clubs could also do well, so it will be interesting.
“This will be my last race before Frankfurt and I’m keen to do my bit to help the club and to find out if I’ve still any speed in my legs after all the marathon training.”
Moray will bid to retain the women’s team title but will once again face a strong challenge from Inverness Harriers.
Inverness Harriers will defend the boys’ and girls’ titles in the young athletes races.
Lucas Cairns will be missing from the boys’ team, which has win for the past four years, as he is competing in the British cross country challenge series race at Cardiff.
