Complacency not a problem for Grammar

-

Aberdeen Grammar are sitting pretty in third in the Premiership but number eight Greig Ryan insists no one at Rubislaw is getting carried away.

Ali O’Connor’s side have made a fine start to the campaign, winning four of their opening five matches.

Ryan said: “We’re in a good place at the moment but we know we cannot let our standards drop. We won our first game against Accies then received a bit of a reality check at Glasgow Hawks in our second match.

“But the response since then has been excellent and we’re playing well. We’ve kicked on from last year and at the moment there is a good vibe about the club and the players are all pulling together.”

Ryan believes last weekend’s 38-32 win at Musselburgh highlights the progress being made by the team.

He said: “If you look at last week’s game it was one which we wouldn’t have won last year. The last two seasons we’ve gone down to Musselburgh and lost our composure and squandered possession.

“But on Saturday Sam Knudson controlled the game, we kept our cool and played well to deservedly win the game. Musselburgh has been a bogey ground for us, so to take the win was very satisfying.”

Grammar aim to continue their impressive start to the season when they welcome GHA to Rubislaw tomorrow.

The visitors are sixth in the division, eight points behind Grammar, but beat Glasgow Hawks, the only team to beat Grammar so far in the league, last weekend and Ryan knows his side faces a test.

He said: “In this league if you want to do anything you have to win your home games and it is important we keep our home form going.

“But we cannot get ahead of ourselves. We’ve got a tough game against GHA who are a physical side.

“They are a young team but they are a good side and we will not get it all our own way. We have to stick to our strengths and make sure we make our periods of pressure count.”
