McAllister confident tide will soon turn in goal quest

-

Rory McAllister is used to plundering goals in Peterhead colours.

The last five years have seen him regularly break the 20-goal mark and he has been one of the SPFL’s most lethal marksmen.

Hitting the net just once this season is a turn up for the books but the Blue Toon skipper will not allow himself to get deflated. He said: “I’m definitely not the same player I was three or four years ago. I don’t run the channels anymore – I’m more of a link player now. I play more against the defenders now and I think I’m getting better at it.

“I’m getting older and have to adjust. I feel I’m still doing a good enough job. I’ve had a good summer and looked after myself. I feel in games I’m stronger against defenders. I’m not getting pushed off the ball now. I feel physically good.

“Goals will come. I’m maybe not the player that scores 25-30 goals a season anymore but, as long as I’m contributing enough and the team is doing well, I’m happy.”

He delivered one of his best performances of the season against Airdrieonians last week, albeit he missed a chance in the second half to put his side in front.

McAllister added: “I thought I played well, it’s just one of those things. It’s just not happening for me in front of goal but there’s no point getting frustrated.

“I feel like I’m getting there. I’ve had zero pain in my ankle and I’m not far off being fully fit. I don’t feel like I’m missing loads of chances, which is worse. The goals will come.”

The Blue Toon are without a game this week and are sitting eighth in the table, with two wins from nine games. However, the mood is not downbeat at Balmoor, despite last weekend’s 2-1 home defeat by Airdrie.

McAllister said: “I think if we keep playing like that, we will get results and push up the league. I don’t think we can be too doom and gloom.”
