A major Aberdeen bridge is to close for three days for council inspection work.

The historic Brig o’ Dee, one of the main routes into the city from the south, will shut on three consecutive Sundays.

It will be closed from 7am-6pm on October 20 and 27 and November 3.

Motorists will be diverted via Great Southern Road, King George VI Bridge, Riverside Drive and Holburn Street.

detrunking of the Brig o’ Dee.”

The local authority took responsibility for the crossing soon after the opening of the Aberdeen bypass.

It had previously formed part of the A90 but was reclassified as the A92 when the £745million peripheral route was completed.

In April, the A92 Charleston-Haudagain roundabout stretch, including Stonehaven Road, Bridge of Dee and Anderson Drive, transferred from Transport Scotland to Aberdeen City Council for operation and maintenance.

The Category A-listed structure dates to 1527 but was mostly rebuilt between 1718 and 1723 and widened to 26 feet from 14ft in 1841.

It was the only access to the city from the south until 1832 and still has some original 16th Century features.

Inspections are also to be carried out on the Persley Bridge, near Danestone, on October 19 and 26 and November 2, from 9am-4pm by council workers.
