Millie achieves her dream

The Press and Journal (Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire) - - FARMING - BY ANNABEL SALL

Aberdeen rider Millie Lawson had a successful debut at the Horse of the Year Show.

The 11-year-old Cults Academy pupil finished fifth out of 18 in the 128cm championship competing on her pony Priestwood Hardy, known as Hary.

The 16-year-old 12.2hh Welsh Section B gelding was bought in Caithness for £400 two years ago and has now secured his place at the 128cm Grand Prix at Olympia International Horse Show and Liverpool International.

The combination jumped a clear over the 1m15 track to be only one of six to make the jumpoff. With determination around the timed track, Hary tipped the planks to end with four faults to finish fifth, the only rider from Scotland to be placed.

Millie said: “It has always been my dream to compete at the Horse of the Year Show and I can’t believe how well Hary coped with the huge crowds and excitement.”
