Black and Whites need not fear table-topping Rovers

-

Elgin City have been handed a fifth successive Tunnock’s Caramel Wafer Challenge Cup away draw after being paired with Raith Rovers in the quarter finals.

Having already defeated Hibernian colts, Brechin City and Dundee, City’s reward for defeating Airdrieonians 2-0 on Saturday is another League 1 opponent in table-topping Raith Rovers.

The Black and Whites have acquitted themselves against higher league opposition this season, and manager Gavin Price insists they have nothing to fear when the tie comes around on the weekend of November 16/17.

Price said: “The game will hopefully take care of itself when it comes.

“I don’t think there will be anything to fear, given the performances we have had against Alloa, Arbroath, Dundee from the Championship, and Airdrie from the league above.

“It’s another game we will be underdogs for, and away from home once again.

“We will go there and hopefully give a good account of ourselves.”

Price will put the trip to Kirkcaldy on the backburner as he switches the focus to Saturday’s Scottish Cup tie at home to Lowland League side Berwick Rangers.

He added: “We’ve got to put it to the back of our minds just now. It’s a month off and we’ve got a lot of important games up until then.

“We are pleased we have got this far in the competition.

“So we’ve just got to take what we get. The likelihood was that we were going to get a difficult tie and we have got that again.

“Once again we will have a go at it and try to progress, but it is time now to concentrate on what’s in front of us.”

Caley Thistle have also been drawn against League 1 opposition, after being handed a home tie with Clyde.
