Scots’ bid to make World Cup will be on TV

The Grammar head coach said: “The boys have had an eye on this one for a while.

“Currie have been a Premiership team and I know our players are keen to see how they match up against them.

“The confidence in the camp is high at the moment and that was evident in us scoring eight tries in the game last week. But we know if we defend as badly as we did against Currie then we are going to be in trouble.

“They are a very good team who like us have only lost once in the league and we are under no illusions about the size of the task.

“We’re looking forward to the challenge of taking them on but it is vital we perform at a high level there.

“It would be nice to get a victory and if we do, it probably would be a signal of intent.

“But it’s a long old season and whatever happens it is vital we stick to it to the very end.” It is not a time of year that one traditionally associates with watching Scotland’s cricketers in action but they face Singapore in Dubai today as the ICC T20 World Cup Qualifier gets under way.

The world governing body confirmed yesterday that two of Scotland’s fixtures – against Bermuda and the Netherlands – will be shown on Sky Sports Cricket and Sky Sports Main Event.

Tony Brian, chairman of Cricket Scotland, said: “It will be great for the many Scottish cricket fans to have a chance to see their team in live action. And particularly the young fans who have not had many opportunities to see their heroes in action on TV.”

The Scots will be favourites to march past Bermuda on October 24 but their tussle with the Dutch on October 27 promises to be a close encounter.

The competition, which features 14 teams, is the qualifier for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, the tournament being held in Australia in late 2020.

Six of the participants will progress from the next fortnight’s schedule.
