Fort are hoping fortune favours the bold

-

History beckons for Fort William as they head for Cliftonhill to face Albion Rovers in the second round of the Scottish Cup tomorrow.

With the side bolstered in recent months by nine Caley Thistle on-loan youngsters, the Lochaber side is no longer cannonfodder for every other Highland League club.

Manager Russell MacMorran confirmed his young players will go into the tie with no fear whatsoever, with a chance to make history against the League 2 side.

He said: “This will be the second time we’ve reached the second round of the Scottish Cup but from where the club were only a matter of months ago, this is massive.

“It is great for the club and everybody connected with it. We will go into the tie as huge underdogs but that’s nothing new for ourselves.

“All the pressure will be on the League 2 side, Albion Rovers, to progress to the third round, so that puts us in a position of being underdogs. But we are also a bit of an unknown quantity to them.

“Having said that, we haven’t actually managed to get a look at them in the flesh as it were, but obviously we have had a few reports on them.”

Fort put five past Vale of Leithen in the last round to earn their place in the second round and they reached the North of Scotland Cup semi-finals this season.

MacMorran added: “You can also spend too much time worrying about the opposition, it’s all about what we do on the day, that’s the beauty of the Scottish Cup.

“We will go into the game with a plan. The lads are all confident and the whole town has caught cup fever.”
