Lobban eases into last eight

● City trust cup victory can kick-start great run in league

Inverness squash player Greg Lobban advanced to the Cleveland Open quarter-finals after beating Cheltenham’s Mark Broekman 11-4, 12-10, 11-3 in Ohio.

The number one seed and title favourite will now face Canadian fifthseed Shawn Delierre in the last eight.

Elgin City manager Gavin Price is determined to kick-start a run of home form with a Scottish Cup victory over Berwick Rangers today.

City return to home action for the first time in nearly a month this afternoon, having played three away matches in succession – against Brechin City, Albion Rovers and Airdrieonians.

With today’s visit of Lowland League Berwick followed by league matches at home to Queen’s Park and Annan Athletic, Price is determined to strike a winning formula at Borough Briggs, where his side have won just one of four league matches so far this term.

Price said: “It’s the start of an important period for us.

“Despite our form at home, we’ve got to continue what we have done on the road in the last three weeks.

“Although we lost at Brechin, I was pleased with the performance that day.

“We were very unlucky to lose.

“For me it has been three good performances in a row. Hopefully we can continue that and find our home form.

“We can’t treat the game lightly – we have got to be 100% at it to get through to the next round.”

After suffering relegation from League 2 last term, Berwick have found it difficult in the Lowland League and currently sit 13th with five points from eight games.

Price says his side must guard against complacency when they face Ian Little’s men, adding: “They have been finding their feet and building a new squad. Their performances and results have improved of late.

“Against a very strong Kelty Hearts they narrowly lost 1-0 but from watching the video they were not losing a lot of the game.

“It’s not going to be an easy game for us. We have got to treat the game properly.

“We have played a number of Lowland League sides in the last three or four years and we have done well against them – but that’s because we have treated the games properly.

“It’s important we get that focus. It’s another obstacle in front of us that we can’t take lightly. We need to focus on playing on the front foot and not giving Berwick a chance in the game.

“It’s cup football. We are changing the focus now as we are probably favourites to win the game but, in the same way as we have done against Dundee or Airdrie, they will come up believing they can cause an upset. We have to make sure that does not happen.”
