Charity launches festive shoebox appeal

- BY CALUM PETRIE

A north-east charity which helps girls at risk of being trafficked has launched its Christmas shoebox appeal.

Stella’s Voice is hoping people will dig deep to support vulnerable orphans in Moldova.

With winter drawing near, the appeal needs donations of filled Christmas shoeboxes and any other basic necessities for the charity’s care homes and people in need in Eastern Europe.

Items requested by the Peterhead-based charity include school items such as pens (blue, black and red), correction fluid,

scissors, glue sticks, glue, art paint brushes, art supplies, canvases for art, pencils, coloured pencils, markers and felt-tip pens.

Personal care items needed include shampoo, conditioner, toothpaste, feminine pads, tampons, shaving gel/foam, razors, deodorant, face and bodywash, hair bands and accessories, tissues, cleansing wipes, clothing, shoes, and bedding.

Household items needed include washingup liquid, liquid soap, laundry detergent, floor cleaner, all-purpose cleaner, furniture polish, dish-washing sponges and mops.

People donating shoeboxes should provide a list of the items inside and they should be wrapped in Christmas paper while empty. Customs require the lid and box be wrapped separately.

Attaching a £2 coin to the box on the contents list also helps with transportation costs. To donate visit stellasvoice. org.uk/donate or phone 0300 3030 2520.

The closing date for shoebox donations is Monday November 18.
