Runners out in force for courses set in whisky territory

Sarah Attwood was one of the top north performers in the Dramathon series of races, which attracted just over 1,200 runners to the Dufftown area.

The Skye and Lochalsh athlete, who won this summer’s Stornoway, Benbecula and Barra half marathons, completed the multi-terrain course between Glenfarcla­s and Glenfiddic­h distilleri­es in 3hr 19min 30sec to finish 13th overall from a field of 367. Corstorphi­ne’s Stuart Livingston­e was the overall winner in 2:41:42.

Guernsey’s Christian Gillman won the half marathon from Tamdhu to Glenfiddic­h in 1:20:35 with Lyndsey Fraser (Edinburgh AC) lifting the women’s title in 1:30:22.

Polish athlete Bartosz Tomkowicz led the way in the 10km from Aberlour to Glenfiddic­h in 43:27 to finish 46 seconds ahead of Moray’s John Paul Downey, 44:13, while Mathilde Chanut was first woman in 49:39.

Veteran Kenyan athlete Isaiah Kosgei took top spot in the Aberdeen parkrun 5km, recording 16min 53secs to finish well ahead of Philip Nind (Holme Pierrepont AC), 17:22, and Martin Mueller, 17:39. The African runner, who won the Baxters Loch Ness marathon two weeks earlier, is a fortnight into a seven week stay in Aberdeen.

Scottish students 800m champion Hannah Cameron (Edinburgh AC), was first woman in 19:00 with her clubmate Zoe Bates second in 19:16 and Heidi Ross third, 20:22.

Finlay Wild slashed 29 seconds off the course record when winning the Meall nan Tarmachan hill race at Killin.

The 10-time Ben Nevis race champion completed the course in 47min 28secs with Graham Gristwood (Ochil) second in 49:19 and Tom Owens (Shettlesto­n) third in 51:18. Catherine Joanne MacPhail (Anster) was first in 1:02:50.
