Dalchirla leads way – shearling makes £60,000

Sale: Crieff Blackface breeder to fore at Dalmally

CENTRE OF ATTENTION: The Blackface shearling ram from Dalchirla which sold for £60,000 at Dalmally

A shearling from Crieff Blackface breeder Ian Hunter, Dalchirla, sold for £60,000 to top the sale of shearlings and ram lambs at Dalmally.

This home-bred son of a £24,000 Connachan, out of a dam by a £15,000 Midlock, sold in a threeway split to the Wights at Midlock, Crawford; the MacArthurs of Nunnerie, Elvanfoot; and the Barclays of Harestone, Insch.

Dalchirla breeding also dominated the lamb ring, with a top of £22,000 for a home-bred son of Boris, a Dalchirla-bred son of a £10,000 Nunnerie, and out of a ewe by the £24,000 Connachan. This lamb was bought by Eoin McKenna, Tullykeera­n and Charlie Phillips, Northern Ireland.

Dalchirla sold a lamb at £19,000, son of the £26,000 Dyke and out of a ewe by £24,000 Connachan, to Tommy Renwick, Clovenford­s.

In the shearling ring Dalchirla’s next highest shearling price was £18,000 by Billy McFarlane & Sons, Drumgrange, Patna for a son of the £24,000 Connachan.

MacArthur from Nunnerie had another great sale, following on from their £100,000 seller at Lanark. They received £45,000 for a home-bred son of Nunnerie Wise Crack who sold in a three-way split to Jimmy and Donald MacGregor, Milton of Campsie, Ian Hunter of Dalchirla, and the Wights of Midlock.

Argyll breeders Davie and Jock Jackson, Pole, Lochgoilhe­ad, sold a shearling at £14,000 in a three-way split to the Campbells, Glenrath, Peebles; Glen, Gatehouse, Kirkcudbri­ght; and Burncastle, Lauder.

The second top priced ram lamb of the day came from Hugh and Alan Blackwood, Auldhouseb­urn, and sold to Elmscleugh for £21,000.

A young breeder selling at Dalmally for the first time was Lewis Smith, Mill of Towie, Drummuir.

He sold a son of Jo Co, an £11,000 Auldhouseb­urn, and out of a homebred ewe by a son of a £160,000 Dalchirla, for £8,000 to the Blackwoods, Auldhouseb­urn.

Averages: 495 shearlings, £1,102.46 (+£167.46 for 43 fewer); 216 lambs, £1,285.74 (-£927.01 for 28 more).
