FM to make speech

Ni­cola Stur­geon will speak at a ma­jor proin­de­pen­dence rally as part of her push for a se­cond vote on the is­sue to be held next year.

The first min­is­ter will head­line the event in Ge­orge Square, Glas­gow, on Novem­ber 2.

In­de­pen­dence sup­port­ers have staged a num­ber of high-pro­file marches across Scot­land but Ms Stur­geon has cho­sen not to join in.

How­ever, she will at­tend the event next week­end, organised by The Na­tional, Scot­land’s only proin­de­pen­dence daily news­pa­per.

Ms Stur­geon told it: “I’m re­ally look­ing for­ward to speak­ing at the #in­dyref2020 rally in Ge­orge Square next Satur­day af­ter­noon – and I hope peo­ple from all over the coun­try will come to­gether and make Scot­land’s voice heard.”

It comes after she used her speech to the SNP con­fer­ence in Aberdeen to in­sist a se­cond in­de­pen­dence ref­er­en­dum “must” take place in 2020.

The first min­is­ter will for­mally re­quest the power to stage a ref­er­en­dum from Prime Min­is­ter Boris John­son be­fore the end of this year.
