Woman dies after smash
Man also injured in the two-car crash
A woman has died after a two-car crash in Deeside.
A Honda Jazz and Fiat Abarth 500 collided near Raemoir on Saturday morning.
Emergency services were called to the scene on the B977 Raemoir to Echt road, near McIntosh Plant Hire, at around 8.50am.
Firefighters cut a woman and a man from the wreckage and both were taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary by ambulance.
However, the woman was pronounced dead on arrival.
The man was treated for his injuries, but his condition was yesterday unknown.
A police spokeswoman said: “At around 8.50am on Saturday, police were called to a report of a road crash involving two cars on the B977 at Raemoir.
“Emergency services attended and a woman was taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary where she was pronounced dead.
“Her family have been informed.
“A man, the driver of the other vehicle, was also taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary to be treated for injuries.”
Three fire crews, one from Banchory and two from the North Anderson
Drive station in Aberdeen, attended.
A fire spokeswoman said: “We sent three pumps and used hydraulic cutting gear to free two people.”
Aboyne, Upper Deeside and Donside councillor Peter Argyle said: “It is clearly an utter tragedy for all involved.
“My thoughts are with the people in both cars, their families and the emergency service workers at the scene.
“That stretch of the road is pretty straight and is not prone to accidents.
“Clearly police will be investigating thoroughly.”
The B977 joins the A980 at Raemoir and Mr Argyll said there had been safety issues further west at Torphins.
However, he added the situation was much improved after the introduction of speed cameras there.
“An utter tragedy for all involved. My thoughts are with the people in both cars”
