United Auctions sold 813 weaned and suckled calves at its principle show and sale of spring-born calves judged by Elaine Duguid, Burnside Farming, Banff. Champion was a LimX bullock from Ryan Shand, Lythebrae, Aberchirde­r, which scaled 390kg selling at £1,010 or 259p per kg to W Cameron, Burnside of Edingight. Reserve was a LimX heifer from S Rainnie, Loanhead, Logie Coldstone, which scaled 390kg selling at £1,100 or 282p per kg to Messrs George, Parks. Champion pen of four were CharX bullocks from Castle Grant Home Farm, Grantown on Spey which scaled 355kg and sold at £970 or 274p per kg . Bullocks (457) sold to average 225.4p per kg selling to a top of 331.8p per kg for a Limx from Mains of Coliethie, Gartlyand to £1,080 for 415kg LimX from Loanhead, Logie Coldstone. Heifers (344) sold to average 220.7p per kg selling to a top of 282p per kg or £1,100 for LimX from from Loanhead, Logie Coldstone.

STIRLING –

The prize for the best overall pair of heifers at the Luing Cattle Society show and sale at United Auctions was won by T. Renwick & Sons, Blackhouse. Other awards by judge Andrew Marchant from Dumfries included: Luing in-calf heifers - The Woodland Trust Scotland, Finglass; Sim-Luing in-calf heifers - Robert McNee Ltd, Benhar; Luing bulling heifers - T. Renwick & Sons, Blackhouse; Sim-Luing bulling heifers - Philiphaug­h Estate, Selkirk. In-calf heifers sold to a top of 1,550gn for a heifer from A. Waugh, Walls to Braidland, Stewartson to average £1,418. Luing bulling heifers topped at 1,900gn for a pen of two from Blackhouse sold to Prof W. Penny, Harehead and averaged £1,259 for 74. Luing heifer calves followed with 11 selling from N. Horsfall, Rannoch, topping at 750gn for a pen of three to HJ Harbinson, Dyke Farm, Falkirk to ave £670 (+£28 on the year). The top price for SimLuing in-calf heifers was 2,400gn for a pair from Robert McNee Ltd, Benhar selling to C. Thomson, West Tulloch, Midmar, Aberdeensh­ire, and the average was £1,827 for 40 sold. Sim-Luing bulling heifers topped at 1,550gns for one from M. Halligan & AC Burke, Stewarton. She sold to James Foster, The Riddings, Bolton Abbey. The overall average was £1,332 (+£103 on the year) for 32 sold.
