United Auc­tions sold 813 weaned and suck­led calves at its prin­ci­ple show and sale of spring-born calves judged by Elaine Duguid, Burn­side Farm­ing, Banff. Cham­pion was a LimX bul­lock from Ryan Shand, Lythe­brae, Aber­chirder, which scaled 390kg sell­ing at £1,010 or 259p per kg to W Cameron, Burn­side of Edingight. Re­serve was a LimX heifer from S Rain­nie, Loan­head, Lo­gie Cold­stone, which scaled 390kg sell­ing at £1,100 or 282p per kg to Messrs Ge­orge, Parks. Cham­pion pen of four were CharX bul­locks from Cas­tle Grant Home Farm, Gran­town on Spey which scaled 355kg and sold at £970 or 274p per kg . Bul­locks (457) sold to av­er­age 225.4p per kg sell­ing to a top of 331.8p per kg for a Limx from Mains of Coli­ethie, Gartlyand to £1,080 for 415kg LimX from Loan­head, Lo­gie Cold­stone. Heifers (344) sold to av­er­age 220.7p per kg sell­ing to a top of 282p per kg or £1,100 for LimX from from Loan­head, Lo­gie Cold­stone.


The prize for the best over­all pair of heifers at the Lu­ing Cat­tle So­ci­ety show and sale at United Auc­tions was won by T. Ren­wick & Sons, Black­house. Other awards by judge An­drew Marchant from Dum­fries in­cluded: Lu­ing in-calf heifers - The Wood­land Trust Scot­land, Fin­glass; Sim-Lu­ing in-calf heifers - Robert McNee Ltd, Ben­har; Lu­ing bulling heifers - T. Ren­wick & Sons, Black­house; Sim-Lu­ing bulling heifers - Philiphaug­h Es­tate, Selkirk. In-calf heifers sold to a top of 1,550gn for a heifer from A. Waugh, Walls to Braid­land, Ste­wart­son to av­er­age £1,418. Lu­ing bulling heifers topped at 1,900gn for a pen of two from Black­house sold to Prof W. Penny, Hare­head and av­er­aged £1,259 for 74. Lu­ing heifer calves fol­lowed with 11 sell­ing from N. Hors­fall, Ran­noch, top­ping at 750gn for a pen of three to HJ Harbin­son, Dyke Farm, Falkirk to ave £670 (+£28 on the year). The top price for SimLu­ing in-calf heifers was 2,400gn for a pair from Robert McNee Ltd, Ben­har sell­ing to C. Thom­son, West Tul­loch, Mid­mar, Aberdeen­shire, and the av­er­age was £1,827 for 40 sold. Sim-Lu­ing bulling heifers topped at 1,550gns for one from M. Hal­li­gan & AC Burke, Ste­warton. She sold to James Foster, The Rid­dings, Bolton Abbey. The over­all av­er­age was £1,332 (+£103 on the year) for 32 sold.
