Manhunt begins over late-afternoon assault
Police launched a manhunt in a north-east town last night after a man was assaulted.
Officers swooped on King Street in Peterhead in large numbers after reports of the attack were received at around 4.30pm. Several police vehicles attended the scene, close to the junction with Ugie Street, along with ambulance crews.
Bystanders reported seeing officers searching their gardens, with dog units called in to assist.
An area of the road was cordoned off.
A spokeswoman said the victim had not been injured seriously enough to be taken to hospital.
She added that officers were unsure whether one or two men were behind the attack.
The spokeswoman said:
“A man was assaulted and did require medical assistance, but did not go to hospital.
“It is not yet clear if we are looking for one man or two in connection.”
Last night police said inquiries were ongoing.
