Dons must take out Hamilton frustration on Falkirk

- BY PAUL THIRD

Gordonians captain Danny Osugo has urged his side to put the pain of a heavy defeat at Hamilton Bulls behind him and focus on head-to-head results against the teams around them in National 2.

The Dons have had two weeks to mull over their 57-5 mauling at Hamilton on October 19 and Osugo believes the chance to take stock has been welcomed at Countesswells.

He said: “The break last week was one I certainly welcomed as the season has been relentless so far.

“It has been tough going, not so much physically, but mentally and I know I am not the only one who enjoyed the chance to reflect and evaluate where we are.

“After a heavy defeat like the one we suffered at Hamilton two weeks ago it can be good to get back out there quickly and try to put it behind you but in this instance I think being able to really mull over that game in particular will do us good.

“The game was a situation where we came up short and suffered a collective bad day at the office against a very good side.”

Ryan Morrice’s side return to duty tomorrow when they welcome Falkirk.

Gordonians are bottom of the division after seven matches but having got off the mark with their first win of the campaign in their last home match Osugo knows a repeat performance against the fourth from bottom visitors will go a long way to changing the league table.

He said: “Teams like Hamilton are not the ones which we should be judged against as the games against the teams near the top are not the ones which will define our season.

“This weekend’s game against Falkirk, however, is a huge one for us and we are focused on trying to produce the same performance we did in our last home game against Glasgow Accies.

“We know if we can win 80% of our remaining home games we will stay up. It is the matches against the teams like Falkirk, who are near us in the league, that will shape our destiny.

“If we can pick up some points on the road that’s a bonus.”
