Young farmers reap competition awards
Young farmers gathered at Huntly Mart for the Scottish Association of Young Farmers’ Clubs north region competitions day.
Brothers William and David Moir, of Home Farm, Cairness, came out top in both the senior beef cattle dressing and senior prime lamb dressing contests.
The duo, who are members of Strichen JAC, scored 97 points out a possible 100 in the cattle section and 93 out of 100 in the lamb contest. Cattle judge Debbie Watt, from New Deer, awarded first place in the junior section to Finn Christie and Cameron Hunter from Garioch Young Farmers’ Club (YFC) with a score of 80 points.
Lamb judges Ross and Kirsten Williams, Upper Tullochbeg, Huntly, also gave the top junior award to the Garioch duo who scored 79 points.
The day also featured an agri skills competition where teams were tasked with completing a range of activities including securing a load, reversing a trailer, and completing a health and safety quiz. The top prize went to a team from Garioch YFC comprising Neil Watt, Callum Simpson and Cameron Hunter.
