Sturgeon leads us up the garden path

The Press and Journal (Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire) - - AGENDA -

SIR, – From the maniacal ravings of the SNP, it emerges that Nicola Sturgeon intends to demand authorisation from the UK Government to hold a second Scottish independence referendum, to which demand the current UK Government’s response would be yes and pigs might fly!

Ms Sturgeon sees it as her destiny to lead Scotland out of the UK and into the promised land, a kind of female Moses figure, but sees nothing odd about an independent Scotland being run by faceless bureaucrats in Brussels.

Nor does it occur to Ms Sturgeon that the EU is mighty pernickety about its borders, so if her lifelong obsession ever came to fruition and Scotland remained in the EU, the first thing the EU would insist upon would be a hard border between Scotland and England.

They’d also insist that our coinage be changed to euros. And where Ms Sturgeon thinks she’d find money for an independent Scotland to pay its way in the EU is another imponderable.

So far from Ms Sturgeon leading us into the promised land, it seems to me she’s leading Scotland up the garden path.
