Nairn Golf Club will host the Amateur Championship for the second time in 2021.

The 126th staging of the event will see 288 of the world’s best amateur players descend on the town.

The club previously hosted the tournament in 1994 when Englishman Lee James defeated Scotland’s Gordon Sherry 2&1 in the 36-hole final. The qualifying rounds for the event will also be played at Nairn Dunbar.

Nairn Golf Club previously hosted the 1999 Walker Cup, the 2004 Jacques Leglise Trophy and the 2012 Curtis Cup.

The winner will earn a place in The Open and the following year’s US Open.

Traditionally, the winner also receives an invitation to The Masters.

The event will take place between June 14 and 19. The R&A Senior Amateur Championship will take place at Royal Dornoch from July 28 to 30 2021.

Nairn Golf Club chief executive Colin Sinclair said: “It’s a privilege and an honour for Nairn Golf Club to be hosting, alongside Nairn Dunbar Gold Club, The Amateur Championship. We are very excited to have this opportunity and to be welcoming golfers from all over the world to experience our fantastic course.”
