Fund­ing of £11.5m un­veiled for lo­cal groups

Com­mu­nity groups around Mo­ray will ben­e­fit from a slice of £11.5 mil­lion fund­ing an­nounced by the Scot­tish Gov­ern­ment yes­ter­day.

The cash from the In­vest­ing in Com­mu­ni­ties Fund is to be shared be­tween 250 com­mu­nity groups, so­cial en­ter­prises and char­i­ties through­out Scot­land to tackle poverty and in­equal­ity, while also help­ing those liv­ing in ru­ral lo­ca­tions.

Among the groups to ben­e­fit are Mo­ray Food Plus, For­res Area Com­mu­nity Trust, Lossiemout­h Com­mu­nity De­vel­op­ment Trust, and

“Tire­less ded­i­ca­tion of the lo­cal vol­un­teers”

Tom­intoul and Glen­livet De­vel­op­ment Trust.

Lo­cal SNP MSP Richard Lochhead said: “It is in­cum­bent upon all of us to chal­lenge in­equal­ity wher­ever it rears its head.

“This new fund will pro­mote com­mu­nityled so­lu­tions to try and get the best pos­si­ble out­comes for Mo­ray’s most vul­ner­a­ble peo­ple.”

Fur­ther fund­ing over the next two years will al­low re­cip­i­ent groups to cre­ate longer-term plans.

Mr Lochhead added: “The flex­i­ble, multi-year struc­ture of the fund­ing is geared to­wards sus­tain­abil­ity. It will give th­ese ini­tia­tives con­fi­dence that they will have re­sources they need to suc­ceed.

“It is the tire­less ded­i­ca­tion and com­pas­sion of all the lo­cal vol­un­teers that al­lows th­ese projects to ex­ist. I am con­fi­dent this fund­ing will al­low th­ese projects to flour­ish.”
