Carson calling for improved performance

-

Highland head coach Davie Carson challenged his side to bring the performance to match their impressive National 1 results when they face bottom side Dundee HSFP tomorrow.

The Inverness outfit are third in the table, with Watsonian and Heriot’s Blues the only sides to have defeated them in their opening eight matches.

Despite recording a 28-3 victory over Ayr last weekend, Carson was unconvinced by his side’s display and is demanding better against a Dundee side sitting rock bottom with only a point so far.

Carson said: “Although we won last week, we didn’t play well at all. The boys were really disappointed with their display.

“We built after the two losses we had in the middle of the season, we had two good performances against Boroughmuir and Stirling Wolves learning off the back of them.

“Against Ayr we slipped back to a performance that was probably worse than the two losses, which is disappointing.

“The positive thing was we still pulled out the victory.

“We had a big support down last week and we didn’t put on a good show for them, so the guys are desperate to put on a performance. We have a chance now, back at Canal Park, to show everyone it was a one-off by putting on a performance and coming away with the five points.”

Carson, who is without captain Stuart MacDonald, Gordon Gregor and Andrew Findlater, is content with the start his newly-promoted side have made.

“If we had said we would be sitting third at the beginning of the season we would have been delighted. After a good start, we had a wee blip after four games which was probably a good reality check,” he said.

“We have stepped up a league, as have Biggar, and the two of us are sitting first and third which shows we are fit to be in there.

“We will certainly be in there challenging for things at the end of the season if we can continue this performance.”
