● Bulgarian computes odds of being Balmoor success

Peterhead’s new signing Danail Ivanov hopes to make his mark on Scottish football after committing until the end of the season.

The Bulgarian winger had been at Balmoor on trial before penning a deal last week.

The teenager had been put to Peterhead by his agent after having a similar trial spell with League 2 side Brechin City.

He is studying computer science at

Aberdeen University and had previously played in the youth setup of Bulgarian side Cherno More.

Ivanov, who turns 19 at the end of the month, is pleased to get the deal done and hopes to show what he can do in his new home.

He said: “UK football is much faster and more physical. It’s really interesting to start a new chapter of my life.

“The boys are really good and really skilful. The training is intensive and I liketheteam.

Cherno More was my team in Bulgaria. I’ve trained with the firstteam and played some friendly games, but most of my games were in the under-19s.

“I’m really motivated to show my potential. Hopefully I can start good and do well for myself at Peterhead. The good results are coming.”

Teenager Ivanov becomes the seventh signing of the season for the Blue Toon, after Aidan Smith, Scott Hooper, Gary Fraser, Ben Armour, David Ferguson and Ryan Conroy.

Cherno More finished fifth in the Bulgarian First League last season and have competed in the Europa League twice in the last 10 years.

Manager Jim McInally spoke previously about loaning Ivanov out to the Highland League, should he get a deal done for the winger.

Fellow midfielders Ross Willox and Liam MacDonald are already on loan at Highland League clubs, in Fraserburgh and Huntly respectively.

Ivanov added: “I came here two months ago and my agent helped me come train for Peterhead.

“It’s good that I’m already part of the team. I’m at the University of Aberdeen and live in Aberdeen, so it’s close to Aberdeen.

“I’ve been here since the end of August and it’s a four-year course. I signed last week until the end of the season.”
