United sign up Powers from States

-

Dundee United have gone Stateside for their latest signing, with Dillon Powers joining the Championship leaders.

The 28-year-old American midfielder is understood to have agreed an 18-month deal with the Tangerines after impressing in a bounce game.

Defender Kieran Freeman, 18, has also clinched a move back to the club he left to join Southampton in 2016.

As was the case with Powers, the 18-year-old impressed Tannadice boss Robbie Neilson while on trial and is likely to be given a contract until the end of the season.

Meanwhile, Neilson has called off his striker search because of the return of Osman Sow to the club.

The 29-year-old Swede had been on loan at Kilmarnock and the expectation was that he would stay there for the rest of the season.

However, one of the first moves made by new Killie boss Alex Dyer was to call time on the agreement and Sow is now back with the Tangerines.

Neilson has given him a warm welcome and insisted that he “ticks those boxes” as regards to the forward he had been looking to recruit.”

“I am delighted to get Osman back.”

“We had hoped he would get game time there but he had a few issues and didn’t play as much.

“He is over them and has come back here fully fit. He can be an important player for us.

“He is a quality player but has needed to get his body right to play on a Saturday. I have no doubt he can get back to where he was.

“He has told us he is feeling very good and does not have the aches and pains he had before he left.
