Boyd hopes break will not bend Caithness

-

Caithness coach Ewen Boyd hopes the break from competitive rugby has not had a negative impact on his side as they return to National 3 duty tomorrow.

Caithness welcome Greenock Wanderers to Millbank in what will be their first game since a 24-11 win at Carrick on January 25 and Boyd is eager to see his side carry on where they left off against the promotion challengers.

He said: “It is hard to judge where we are after a three-week break. We gave the players a week off after the Carrick game but we’ve been training and it will be interesting to see how sharp we are.

“We will need to be as we have to attack Greenock. We’re well aware of where we are in the table and how important our home games will be between now and the end of the season.”

Wanderers are fourth in the division, three points behind secondplaced Ardrossan Academicals and Ewen knows the visitors are treating their trip north seriously.

He said: “Greenock are a good side, a club pushing for promotion, and they’ve told us they are coming up here with a full-strength squad.

“We have to get our approach right and be positive from the first whistle to the last.

“The good thing for us is that we are near full strength too and we believe we’ve got the players here who can ensure we get a positive result.”

The winter weather has taken its toll this week but Boyd is hopeful tomorrow’s big game will go ahead.

He said: “We’re hoping the game will be on.

“We’ve been working hard to get the game on and even though it’s a bit wet up here Millbank is usually pretty decent.

“We’re hoping for a big crowd for this one it’s our first game in a few weeks and it’s such an important game.”
