Scottish sex crimes at highest level on
Last year, it was revealed the number of sexual crimes reported to police had risen by 8% in Scotland – the highest level on record.
Figures published by the Scottish Government showed a jump of 1,060 reports of sexual crimes between 2017-18 and 2018-19.
The rise is, in part, due to the confidence of women who feel they can now speak out about crimes.
Terrance Oliphant, from Blackburn in Aberdeenshire, last week admitted carrying out a horrific catalogue of sex offences more than half a century ago.
The 84-year-old was only brought to justice after his first victim finally disclosed to her family doctor, during counselling sessions, the abuse she had suffered.
Oliphant, of Dalrymple Circle, began his sex offending in 1969 and continued until 1981.
