Show: Wolfstar Jackaroo awarded overall champion rosette

Intermedia­te bulls led the charge at the pre-sale show of Simmentals at the Stirling Bull Sales yesterday.

Judge Phillip Simmers, together with his son Reece, from Backmuir Trading, Keith, awarded the supreme and reserve overall rosettes to the intermedia­te section winners.

Phillip, who runs 700 cows including 50 pure Simmentals and 200 pure Luings, said the overall champion was in a class of its own.

“I was looking for bulls I would buy myself,” he said.

“I’m looking for something that’s deep and square on the back end, with good plates and a wide pelvis.”

The overall and intermedia­te champion was June 2018-born Wolfstar Jackaroo from the King family’s Wolfstar herd at Ormiston, East Lothian. He is by the 11,000gn Team Celtic, out of Wolfstar Ellie.

The reserve overall and reserve intermedia­te champion was Corskie Jalex from the Green family at Corskie, Garmouth, Fochabers. He is by the 22,000gn Dirnanean

Bradley and out of Corskie Exseed.

The senior champion award went to May 2018born Islavale Jimbo from the Stronach family at Berryleys, Grange, Keith. He is by Corskie Highlander, and out of Islavale Glossy.

Reserve went to another entry from the King family’s Wolfstar herd – May-2018 born Wolfstar Jimmy Choo, by Islavale Guy and out of Wolfstar Forget-me-not.

The junior champion prize was awarded to September 2018-born

“I’m looking for something with good plates and a wide pelvis”

Bridgewate­r Farm Jazzman from JN Glasgow, Co Tyrone. He is an AI son of Curaheen Dickens, out of Bridgewate­r Farm Abigail.

The reserve junior award went to October 2018-born Derrycalla­ghan Jasper from Harold Stubbs and Andrew Burleigh, Ballindarr­agh, Northern Ireland. He is an embryo transfer son of Mullyknock Gallant, out of Derrycalla­ghan Top Girl.

Lastly, the female championsh­ip was awarded to June 2018-born heifer Annick Duchess 19th, by Wolfstar Gold Digger, from the Quarms at Holehouse Farm, Irvine.

Reserve went to October 2018-born heifer Kennox Frankie’s Jewel from Ayrshire breeder David Craig. She is an AI daughter of Woodhall Ferrari.

Meanwhile, the overall championsh­ip in the Salers show was awarded to the intermedia­te leader.

Judge William Aitken from Carlopshil­l, Penicuick, gave his top award to April 2018-born Strathalla­n Navigator from Dunblane breeder Murray Lyle. By Seamore Kawasaki, and out of Seamore Jenna, he was reserve junior intermedia­te bull at Perth Show last year.

Reserve overall and senior champion was March 2018-born Rigel Nirvana, by Rigel Byron

and out of Rigel Desire, from Rigel Pedigree, Leven Fields, Yarm, North Yorkshire.

Other awards included the reserve junior championsh­ip to Darnford Nelson, by Fangio, from David Watson, Darnford Farm, Durris, Banchory.
