Limousins go for 30,000gn at Carlisle sale
Bulls: 91 sold as the average price rises by £276
Limousins sold to a top of 30,000gn twice at the breed’s early spring show and sale of bulls in Carlisle.
The sale leaders were the supreme overall and reserve overall champions from Dumfries breeder Bruce Goldie.
The supreme champion, selling to the Jenkinson family for its Whinfellpark herd at Clifton Moor, Penrith, Cumbria, was June 2018-born Goldies Olympia.
He is an embryo transfer (ET) son of the 38,000gn Ampertaine Foreman, out of Goldies Fragrance.
The reserve champion – another June 2018-born bull bred the same way as the champion – sold to the Alford family for its Foxhillfarm herd based in Devon.
Other leading prices included 13,000gn and 12,000gn for entries from the Gammie family’s Westpit herd at Drumforber, Laurencekirk.
The dearest, which stood reserve junior champion in the pre-sale show, sold to Messrs Campbell, Carstairs Junction, Lanark.
This was 17-month-old Westpit Olklahoma – an ET son of Jalex Itsallgood, out of Westpit Julie.
The 12,000gn lot, selling to Messrs Wilson, Creetown, Newton Stewart, Wigtownshire, was August 2018-born Westpi Orlando.
An ET son of Goldies Jackpot, out of Brockhurst Holy, he was overall continental champion at the Stars of the Future calf show last November.
Other prices included 10,500gn for 18-monthold Garyvaughn OJack, by Foxhillfarm Manhattan and out of Guards Janelle, from CV Lewis & Sons, Buttington, Powys, Wales.
He sold to the Hendry family at Heads of Auchinderran, Keith.
Meanwhile, David Macarthur and Una MacDonald from Lower Cairnglass, Gollanfield, Inverness, paid 10,000gn for Arradfoot Ozymandius, by Wilodge Joskins, from Arradfoot & Newland Pedigree Livestock, Ulverston, Cumbria.
In total, 91 bulls sold to average £6,648.46 – this is up £276.10 on last year’s sale.
